Lars Embäck: INTE

Installation at Axelhuset in Gothenburg consisting of twelve mirrors along the corridor and a small archive in three glass cabinets with material about Endre Nemes, Hilma af Klint and Lars Embäck, as well as original works of Lars Embäck.

Lars Embäck returns to Högsbo as a stranger. I grew up here, but no one knows who I am, he sighs. But perhaps he was just a temporary guest who never really belonged to the neighbourhood community. In Lars Embäck's mind, the artists Endre Nemes and Hilma af Klint have become metaphorical substitutes for his father's alienation from modern society and his mother's belonging to a world of obsessive thoughts. We are trapped in our own skin, writes philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein in his diary from the 1930s. Lars Embäck's works in the corridor of Axelhuset, in the library, in the church, outdoors in the square and in the neighbourhood aim to show rather than tell.
